Forex Market Hours in Dubai: London and New York in UAE Time

A table of forex market hours copied from London or New York is the wrong clock for the UAE. The country stays on Gulf Standard Time, four hours ahead of UTC, in every month of the year. London and New York move their clocks. This page converts the two sessions students ask about, and it shows where a class in Dubai can sit around them.

Gulf Standard Time does not change

Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and the other emirates share one zone. There is no daylight-saving shift inside the UAE, so a student joining online from Abu Dhabi or Sharjah is on the same clock as someone in the room in Dubai. There is no second timetable for the country.

What the session names mean

“London session” and “New York session” are shorthand for the local business day in those cities, about 08:00 to 17:00 on the clock there. They are not an opening bell. Price can move outside them. The names still help, because more banks are at work then, so the hour is often busier and the spread is often tighter. A busier hour is still traded at a size chosen beforehand.

The trading week follows New York. It opens at 17:00 New York time on Sunday, which is the early hours of Monday in the UAE, and it closes at 17:00 New York time on Friday, which is the early hours of Saturday in the UAE. When the United States is on daylight saving time, those moments fall near 01:00 Gulf Standard Time. When the United States is on standard time, they fall near 02:00. From Saturday morning until Monday morning, UAE time, the forex market is shut. A class can still meet. The chart will not be printing new candles.

When both cities are on daylight saving time

From roughly late March until late October, London is on British Summer Time and New York is on Eastern Daylight Time. In Gulf Standard Time:

• London session: 11:00 to 20:00
• New York session: 16:00 to 01:00
• Hours when both cities are inside their workday: 16:00 to 20:00

That late-afternoon block is the overlap people mean when they talk about the busiest stretch of the forex day from Dubai.

When both cities are on standard time

From roughly November until mid-March, London is on Greenwich Mean Time and New York is on Eastern Standard Time. In Gulf Standard Time:

• London session: 12:00 to 21:00
• New York session: 17:00 to 02:00
• Overlap: 17:00 to 21:00

The whole pattern sits one hour later than the summer table. An alarm set for 16:00 in July is the wrong alarm in January.

The week the two cities disagree

Britain and the United States do not move their clocks on the same Sunday. For about a week in March, and about a week in late October, one city has changed and the other has not. In that gap the overlap is an hour away from both tables above. Check the date before you treat either list as exact.

The time on a candle is often not UAE time

MetaTrader 5 stamps each candle in the broker's server time. That server is often on a European offset, not on Gulf Standard Time. Fitting a class around the session you watch

How to use the busy hours

A larger move is also a faster way for an oversized position to hurt. Read how much to risk per trade before you treat the overlap as a reason to increase size. If you are marking areas to watch during that window, start with support and resistance, then let the session show you whether price respects them. A scheduled release inside that window is a separate clock. Convert it on the economic calendar in Dubai rather than treating every busy hour as news.
