MARKET CALENDAR

How to Read a Forex Economic Calendar in Dubai

By · 30 Oct 2026 · 8 min read

A forex economic calendar is a timetable of scheduled numbers: employment, inflation, interest-rate decisions, and a few surveys that banks already have in the diary. It is not a list of trades. For a learner in Dubai, the useful skill is knowing when the number prints in Gulf Standard Time, and which currency on your chart it belongs to.

Session hours are a different page. London and New York as blocks of the day are in forex market hours in Dubai. This page is the individual release inside those hours. The study order around both is forex education in the UAE.

What a row on the calendar is telling you

A useful row has four facts. The time. The currency. The name of the release. And a mark for how widely it is watched, often shown as one to three symbols. You can ignore the forecast and the previous figure until the first three are clear. A high-impact US release matters to EUR/USD because the dollar is in the pair. A high-impact euro release matters for the same reason. A Canadian release does not belong on a euro chart just because the icon looks urgent.

The name is enough at the start. Non-farm payrolls is the US employment report people mean when they say NFP. A CPI print is inflation. A rate decision is the central bank's policy rate, often with a statement a few minutes later. You are learning the diary, not guessing whether the number will beat the forecast. That guess is not the beginner lesson.

Gulf Standard Time does not move

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain stay on Gulf Standard Time, UTC+4, in every month. The United States and Britain move their clocks. A calendar that shows New York time or London time will be an hour wrong in the UAE for half the year if you memorise one conversion and never check the date.

Convert from the zone the website is using, not from a screenshot someone posted last summer. If the site offers a timezone menu, set it to Dubai or to UTC+4 and then read the column. If it does not, use the two examples below and add or subtract the hour when the other country is on standard time.

Two conversions learners in Dubai actually need

Many US releases, including non-farm payrolls, are scheduled for 8:30 in the morning in New York.

  • When New York is on Eastern Daylight Time, 8:30 in the morning is 16:30 Gulf Standard Time. The United States uses that clock from the second Sunday in March until the first Sunday in November.
  • When New York is on Eastern Standard Time, the same 8:30 release is 17:30 Gulf Standard Time.

A London release scheduled for 7:00 in the morning local time falls at 10:00 Gulf Standard Time while Britain is on British Summer Time, and at 11:00 while Britain is on Greenwich Mean Time. Britain and the United States do not change clocks on the same Sunday. For about a week in March, and about a week in late October, one of those conversions has moved and the other has not. Check the date. The session tables, including that awkward week, are on the market-hours page.

MetaTrader 5 stamps candles in the broker's server time, which is often a European offset, not Gulf Standard Time. The English lesson below is the platform walkthrough. Open it, find the server clock, and do not assume that clock matches the calendar until you have compared them once. Practical sessions at the academy use StarTrader, an SCA-regulated broker. Read the server offset inside the terminal. The account is separate from the course fee.

Match the release to the pair, then leave the candle alone

If you are learning one major currency pair, filter the calendar to the two currencies in that pair. EUR/USD needs the euro and the dollar. USD/JPY needs the dollar and the yen. A full unfiltered calendar is a reason to feel busy. It is not a plan.

Around a high-impact release the spread often widens and the candle can travel a long way in a minute. That is a poor moment to learn where the buttons are. If MetaTrader 5 is still new, watch the release on a demo chart and write down what the candle did. Place nothing. The difference between that chart and a live ticket is in demo versus live on MT5. The install steps are in how to start with MT5.

A sweep or an order block drawn through the release is easy to misread, because the wick may be the number, not a level. Mark structure when the minute has settled. The vocabulary for those marks is smart money concepts, and it still depends on market structure rather than on the headline.

Where this sits in a Dubai course

Basic to Intermediate teaches the quote, the candle, and the swing. It does not ask you to trade the payroll number. Fundamental analysis, including how a release sits next to the chart, is on Advanced Institutional Strategies, after that base. The lists are on forex trading courses. If you book the advanced track because a calendar looks exciting, you will spend the hour on swings you could have learned first.

A group class can look at one release together, on Gulf Standard Time, whether you are in the room in Dubai or online from Abu Dhabi. A private hour can use the release you already circle, if you bring the pair and the question. People with a day job often meet the US number after work: 16:30 or 17:30 is early evening in the UAE. How to fit that hour around an office is in forex classes for working professionals. The capital-to-Dubai choice is the Abu Dhabi course page.

Write the release in the same place you write the trade. The date, the time in Gulf Standard Time, the currency, and whether you were watching or trading. That line belongs in a trading plan and journal. A private coaching hour can then review the line. What that hour is built around is personal forex coaching in the UAE.
